HANOI, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Major Do Thi Hang Nga on Monday became Vietnam's first servicewoman to join a UN peacekeeping mission after receiving a tour assignment to South Sudan.

Nga, assistant of the Advisory-Planning Department under the Vietnam Peacekeeping Center, will act as an advisory officer in charge of monitoring military activities at the UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan for one year, the center said on Monday.

The 36-year-old woman, who has good command of English language and computer science, plans to study the Arabic language in South Sudan.

Nga and her husband have two little children who live in the capital of Hanoi.

Before Nga, Vietnam has sent 19 military officers, all men, to UN peacekeeping missions.

Vietnam is preparing for the deployment of a sapper unit and a second-level field hospital in South Sudan, said the Hanoi-based center.
