Fire, explosion deaths down in Vietnam

HO CHI MINH CITY, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- A total of 3,464 fires and explosions broke out across Vietnam in the first 10 months of this year, killing 85 people and injuring 220 others, the country's Fire Prevention and Fight Department said Monday.

The incidents caused losses of some 1.5 trillion Vietnamese dong (nearly 66.4 million U.S. dollars),

In October, Vietnam witnessed 276 fires and explosions which claimed six lives and injured 16 people, and caused losses of 24.4 billion Vietnamese dong (1.1 million U.S. dollars).

In the first 10 months of last year, Vietnam saw 2,660 fires and explosions which killed 96 people, injured 224 others, and caused losses of 1,156 billion Vietnamese dong (nearly 51.2 million U.S. dollars), the department said.
