JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Twelve militants were killed and 12 others wounded as fresh clashes erupted between Taliban and the rival Islamic State (IS) group in eastern Nangarhar province, provincial government spokesman said Monday.

The infighting happened on Sunday evening, in Dara-e-Noor and Khogyani districts, where seven Taliban and five IS fighters were killed and 12 others, including five IS fighters wounded, spokesman Ataullah Khogyani told Xinhua.

Among those militants killed was Sayyed Aga, Taliban shadow district chief for Dara-e-Noor, the official noted.

In a separate development, police also arrested a key local IS member named Belal in Hasak Mina district of the mountainous province Sunday, the source added.

No comment had been made from the conflicting sides to the media.

Both the rival armed groups often fight over expanding territory in parts of the conflict-hit Afghanistan since the IS group emerged in early 2015.

A few weeks ago, 13 fighters from both sides were reportedly killed and 18 others wounded following a similar clash in Nangarhar.
