ADDIS ABABA, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Chairperson of the AU Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has condemned Thursday's attack against a convoy of UN peacekeepers.

The logistic convoy of the UN Multidimensional Integrated Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) was attacked on the road between Tessalit and Aguelhok, during which three Chadian peacekeepers were killed and two wounded.

The chairperson of the AU Commission, in a statement issued on late Friday, expressed AU's heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers and wishes speedy recovery to those injured.

He also expressed solidarity with Chad and commended its government for its continued commitment to the cause of peace and security in Mali.

He further expressed solidarity with the UN family and reiterated AU's support to MINUSMA in the discharge of its mandate, including in facilitating the implementation of the Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation in Mali.

The chairperson called on the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to provide full support to regional initiatives, in particular the G5 Sahel and the Nouakchott Process, which demonstrate the political will and commitment of the countries of the region to combat terrorist and criminal groups operating in the Sahel region.

He looks forward to the Security Council discussions of 30 October on the G5 Joint Force and to the donor's conference scheduled to be held in Brussels in December 2017, said a statement from the pan-African bloc.
