SANAA, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Shiite Houthi rebels fighting a Saudi-led coalition backing Yemeni government said they fired a ballistic missile on Friday toward a Saudi military base in Saudi border province of Najran, Houthi-controlled Saba news agency reported in a statement.
The statement said the missile hit a weapons depot of the Saudi army in Beir Askar area in Najran and destroyed it.
Meanwhile, the Saudi-led coalition said in a statement posted on the Saudi state news agency that the missile hit a residential compound belonging to a Saudi government-run civil company in Beir Askar area.
The coalition said the missile destroyed the residential compound and slightly wounded one worker.
The action came few hours after Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced in a reported interview on Thursday that his country will continue the war against the Iranian-backed Shiite Houthi rebels.
"We're pursuing until we can be sure that nothing will happen there like Hezbollah again, because Yemen is more dangerous than Lebanon. It's next to Bab al-Mandab so if something happens there, that means 10 percent of world trade stops. This is the crisis," Salman was quoted as saying in the interview.
This is the latest in a series of ballistic missiles fired by Houthis from Yemen toward Saudi cities since Saudi Arabia intervened in the Yemeni war more than two and a half years ago.
However, most of the missiles were intercepted and destroyed by the Saudi anti-missile system.
Saudi Arabia led a military coalition of 10 countries and intervened in Yemen's civil war in March 2015 to back the internationally recognized government of President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi against Iranian-allied Shiite Houthis who stormed the capital Sanaa and control much of the country's north.
More than 10,000 Yemenis, mostly civilians, have been killed in the war that also displaced more than 3 million others, according to UN agencies.
Yemen has also been hit by a deadly cholera epidemic and is on the brink of mass famine.
