Kenya's bourse stocks gain after repeat polls

NAIROBI, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- At least 10 large stocks at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) rose Friday as the market sustained a positive trend after the repeat presidential polls.

The stocks rose to push all the NSE indices up, with the benchmark NSE 20 Share Index and the NSE All Share Index ending the week 1 percent higher.

The NSE 20 Share Index closed the week at 3,648.31 from 3,602.56 on Tuesday, with the key indicator gaining 104.32 points or 2.9 percent in the three days of trading. On Tuesday alone, the index went up 61.01 points.

Similarly, the All Share Index (NASI) ended Friday at 159.87 from 158.11 points in the previous session. In total, the index went up 4.94 points or 3.2 percent during the week.

The NSE 25 Share index, on the other hand, closed the week at 4,144.82 points, having added 96.82 points or 2.4 percent during the week.

Some of the large stocks that rose Friday were Safaricom (3 percent), Kenya Airways (8 percent), Britam (7 percent) and Barclays Bank (4 percent).

Kenya Commercial Bank, Equity Bank and Safaricom were the top three traded stocks on Friday after moving 3 million, 2 million and 1.8 million respectively.

Turnover stood at 3.4 million U.S. dollars on a volume of 11 million shares from 22 million worth 5.9 million dollars. Enditem
