PUL-E-KHUMRI, Afghanistan, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Afghan forces killed eight Taliban militants in northern province of Baghlan, an army official said Friday.
Security forces ambushed early Friday morning, killing eight militants loyal to the Taliban, including two of the insurgents' local commanders, Mawlavi Armani and Mawlavi Sattar, in Baghlan-e-Markazi district of the province, Abdul Khalil, a press officer of army 20 Pamir Corps based in the area, told Xinhua.
Government forces have not sustained casualties, according to the source.
Taliban had not commented on the report.
Fighting has escalated in Afghanistan as the Taliban insurgency spreads from its traditional strongholds in the south and east to the once peaceful region in the north, where the militants have been recruiting from among the youth.
