BEIJING, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Congratulations are pouring in from around the world since Chinese President Xi Jinping was re-elected general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Wednesday.

In their messages, leaders of foreign countries, political parties and organizations also expressed their confidence that the CPC, under Xi's leadership, will guide China toward greater prosperity and a larger international role.

The following is an edited version of some of the messages.

Russian President Vladimir Putin:

The result of the election demonstrates that you have high political prestige and your polices to promote China's social and economic development and advance China's international status are broadly supported by the Chinese people.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel:
