SYDNEY, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Victorian state government in Australia have provided 2.5 million Australian dollars on Friday to secure land for an aged care facility specifically catering to the local Chinese community.
"Family is so important and we want all our elderly family members to be comfortable and happy," Robin Scott, Victorian minister for multicultural affairs, said in a statement obtained by Xinhua.
At the beginning of the year, a series of consultations were held with members of the Chinese community to determine the priorities and preferences for a new Chinese aged care home.
As a result it was decided that a location in the southeast of Melbourne would be the site for the development, as there are currently no Chinese-specific aged care facilities in the area.
When the construction is completed, it's expected the facility will be able to house 90 residents and be focused on providing cultural, dietary and language requirements for its guests.
Victorian member of parliament Martin Pakula said "this new facility will provide a culturally appropriate home for many local Chinese seniors."
"I am proud to represent such a diverse community," Pakula said.
