TEHRAN, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Iran's President Hassan Rouhani said Thursday that Tehran would continue its support for Baghdad's battle against terrorism and its efforts to boost national unity, Press TV reported.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran has always been and will be standing by the side of the Iraqi government and nation in their fight against terrorism," Rouhani said in the meeting with the visiting Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.

"Iran also backs the unity and solidarity of Iraq as well as the territorial integrity of the country," Rouhani was quoted as saying.

The Iranian president hailed what he called Iraq's recent victories vis-a-vis serious security challenges and internal problems.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran, with all its capabilities and power, is ready to contribute to the reconstruction and development of Iraq and to stand with its government and nation," Rouhani stressed.

He urged constant contacts between Iran and Iraq and their consultations in order to develop and strengthen regional relations.

"Today, we do not see any reason to continue disputes and tensions among the countries of the region," he added.

Abadi, who arrived in Tehran on Thursday for mutual talks, stressed Baghdad's determination to safeguard Iraq's unity and territorial integrity, noting that the government will never allow the country to be threatened with disintegration.

Abadi's visit to Iran followed his visit in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and Turkey.
