SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- At least five people including three policemen and a paramilitary trooper were wounded Thursday in a grenade blast in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

The grenade attacks took place during evening hours in Kulgam and Pulwama districts, south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"The first attack was carried out in Damhal-Hanjipora area of Kulgam, in which three policemen and a civilian were wounded," a police official said. "Second attack was carried out in Tral in which a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) paramilitary trooper was wounded."

Police blame militants for both the attacks.

Reports said in Damhal-Hanjipora the police party was the target while as in Tral the grenade was lobbed at CRPF bunker.

Soon after the attacks, police and paramilitary forces at both the places rushed to the spot and launched a manhunt to nab the attackers.

So far no militant outfit has claimed responsibility of the attack.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday late evening suspected militants shot and wounded a policeman in Shopian district. According to police officials the policeman was deployed as a personal security officer of pro-India political party leader National Conference.

Militant groups opposing New Delhi's rule are engaged in a guerilla war with Indian troops in the region since 1989.

Kashmir, the Himalayan region divided between India and Pakistan, is claimed by both in full. Since their independence from Britain, the two countries have fought three wars, two exclusively over Kashmir.
