SEOUL, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's presidential Blue House said Thursday that it had asked U.S. President Donald Trump to visit a U.S. military base in Pyeongtaek, a city about 60 km south of the capital Seoul, during his two-day trip to South Korea.

An unidentified Blue House official was quoted by Yonhap news agency as saying the office had delivered its call for President Trump to visit the Pyeongtaek military base when he comes to South Korea to see how the U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) is using the base.

The official noted that the U.S. military base in Pyeongtaek is a recently constructed modern facility equipped with better facilities than any U.S. military base has in the world.

Two days ago, a senior White House official said the U.S. president was "most likely to visit" Camp Humphreys, the U.S. military base in Pyeongtaek, during his trip to South Korea.

Trump is scheduled to visit South Korea from Nov. 7 to Nov. 8. His travel to Asia was slated from Nov. 3 to Nov. 14.

It would be his first trip to the region since becoming president, during which he will attend a meeting of leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) economies and join the gathering of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Trump told reporters on Wednesday that he would not say whether he would visit the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) during his trip to South Korea.

The DMZ is a heavily guarded strip of land separating South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The Blue House official was quoted as saying the White House would announce where the U.S. President will visit during his stay in South Korea.
