CAIRO, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- An Egyptian court on Wednesday upheld a seven-year prison sentence for a police officer convicted of torturing a man to death in a police station in Upper Egypt's Luxor province, official Ahram Online website reported.

The Cassation Court also confirmed three-year jail verdicts for four police informants convicted in the same case, Ahram added.

In November 2015, Talaat Shabeeb, a 47-year-old a papyrus vendor, was arrested over drug possession and beaten to death by a group of policemen in a Luxor police station.

The court also ordered the minister of interior to pay 1.5 million Egyptian pounds (1 U.S. dollar=17.7 pounds) compensation to Shabeeb's family.

The four men were originally convicted in July 2016.
