SEOUL, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- South Korean President Moon Jae-in on Wednesday emphasized the diplomacy with four major powers surrounding the country to resolve nuclear issues and build peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Moon made the remarks as he conferred credentials on four South Korean ambassadors to China, the United States, Russia and Japan, according to the presidential Blue House.

The president said the diplomacy with four major powers was really important currently to resolve the nuclear issue involving the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea (DPRK) and build a peace regime on the peninsula and further in the entire Northeast Asia.

He noted that the four-power diplomacy would inevitably be the basic diplomacy of South Korea though his country should diversify its diplomacy into the European Union (EU) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Touching on major issues with the four powers, Moon said there were hot potatoes between South Korea and the U.S., including cooperation in resolving the DPRKs nuclear issue, stronger South Korea-U.S. alliance as well as issues on the South Korea-U.S. free trade agreement (FTA) and the contribution to the allied defense costs.

Regarding Japan, Moon selected cooperation in resolving the DPRKs nuclear issue, the resolution of historical issues and the development of the future-oriented partnership as key issues in the bilateral relations.

The president said South Korea should rapidly develop relations with China, in accordance with the size of bilateral trade and beyond the issue on the U.S. Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile interception system.
