Tripoli, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Head of UN Support Mission in Libya Ghassan Salame on Tuesday said he is glad that a joint committee is formed representing Libya's House of Representatives and the Higher Council of State.
Salame made his remarks while speaking to journalists following a meeting on Tuesday with the Libyan Foreign Minister Mohamed Sayala, in the Libyan capital Tripoli.
"I am glad that after two years of the Skhirat agreement, a joint committee is established in accordance with the agreement. This is a good precedent for the future," Salame said.
"There are several articles in the political agreement that clearly call for consultations. The two delegations found it their duty to consult the two councils in Tubruq and Tripoli before returning to us with a negative or positive answer," Salame added.
The second round of discussions on the amendment of the Libyan political agreement was concluded on Saturday in Tunisia, with sponsorship of the UN Support Mission in Libya.
Salame proposed an action plan in mid September to end Libya's political stalemate. The plan includes amending the current UN-sponsored political agreement, holding a UN-sponsored national conference for all of Libya's political factions, adopting a constitution, and electing a president and a parliament.
Sayala said the meeting discussed "the results of the recent discussion sessions ... as well as the UN efforts to find a consensual solution in accordance with the political agreement."
Libya has been struggling to make a democratic transition following the 2011 uprising that toppled the late Gaddafi's regime. The north African country is plagued with insecurity and political division.
