OSLO, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Last year, 32,827 new cancer cases were registered in Norway, newspaper Aftenposten reported Tuesday.
Among those patients, 54 percent belong to male population. According to the report, one of the explanations for increased number of male patients is that prostate cancer is a common form of cancer and that more men get lung cancer.
Prostate cancer accounts for 29 percent of all cancer cases among male patients, making it the most common form of cancer among men. This is followed by lung cancer, colon cancer and bladder and urinary tract cancer.
On the other hand, the number of cases now increased most among women from 2012 to 2016 as there was an annual increase of 1.2 percent for men and 4.5 percent for women among new cancer cases and per 100,000 residents, Aftenposten wrote.
The report shows 36 percent of all men and 30 percent of all women will be affected by a cancer disease before turning 75 years.
In the last couple of years, the biggest increase has been noticed in the uncommon thyroid cancer form.
Among the more common forms of cancer, there was biggest increase in cases of moles and skin cancer, due to sunbathing habits and not enough self-protection among Norwegians, Aftenposten wrote.
