ISLAMABAD, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday for talks on bilateral and regional issues.

It is Tillerson's first visit to Pakistan since the new U.S. administration assumed office and the first visit by a senior U.S. official after President Donald Trump announced the new strategy for Afghanistan and South Asia in August this year.

The U.S. state secretary is scheduled to hold talks with his Pakistani counterpart Khawaja Asif at the foreign ministry. He will also meet Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Army Chief Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa, Pakistan's state radio reported.

It would be Asif's second meeting with Tillerson in less than a month. The two met in Washington earlier this month and had detailed discussions on bilateral relations and regional security situation, including Afghanistan and Pakistan-India relations, according to the foreign ministry.
