CARACAS, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Venezuela's regional election results have not been officially contested by the opposition, despite their public claims of fraud, the head of the election body said on Monday.

Tania D'Amelio, one of five rectors on the National Electoral Council (CNE), called on opposition parties alleging vote tampering to use official channels to challenge the results.

"As of today, Monday, absolutely no one has contested the CNE, so this can't be political preaching to destabilize the country and generate conflicts," D'Amelio said in an interview broadcast by state VTV.

"I call on the political parties, above all the opposition, who are the ones saying there is fraud, to contest the process before the CNE," she added.

The Oct. 15 elections saw the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) snap up the vast majority of gubernatorial races, winning 18 of 23 states. The remaining five went to the opposition Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD).

"The Venezuelan electoral process is the most audited in the world by all of the political organizations that participate in the polls," said D'Amelio, referring to the different safeguards built into the system.

The official presented the document the CNE issued with the final results, saying it was "endorsed with the headings of representatives of all the political organizations, both revolutionary (ruling and reform parties) and opposition," she said.
