TIRANA, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Albanian Naval Forces rescued Monday 115 Syrian immigrants who had departed from the Turkish coastal area and were travelling toward the Greek island of Chios, Albanian defense ministry said.
The rescue was achieved thanks to Albanian "Oriku" ship on mission in the Aegean Sea.
Albanian Naval Force informed that they were noticed by the "Oriku" crew who also signaled the Turkish and Greek units.
There have been two consecutive rescue operations of the Albanian team which for almost a year represents Albania in the NATO operation "Sea Guardian" in the Aegean, the defense ministry said in its statement.
The ship of the Albanian Naval Force is engaged in the NATO operation in the Aegean for prevention of influx of illegal emigrants who attempt to enter into the European Union countries.
The "Oriku" has taken part since December 2016 in the NATO operation in the Aegean.
