CANBERRA, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- A South Australian teenager has survived an encounter with a great white shark without sustaining any injuries, local media reported on Monday.

Sarah Williams, 15, was fishing from her kayak off the coast of South Australia (SA) when the five-meter shark attacked.

Chris Williams, Sarah's father, was nearby in a small boat when he saw the shark circle the kayak several times and attack.

"The next thing I hear was a big bang of something very solid hitting the kayak, then screams," Chris told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) on Monday.

"Sarah had been thrown into the air and just come down into the water, and this shark has just rolled and all I saw was the dark side and the white belly and just huge fins and just white water everywhere.

"It was going to eat her."

Chris Williams acted quickly, firing up the motor on his boat and pulling his daughter out of the water before the shark could attack her.

"(It) came back to the boat again and grabbed onto the boat and punctured it and has damaged the boat, and threw my daughter out," Adrienne Clarke, Sarah's mother, said.

"We got her out of the water before it could do any further damage.

"The shark then followed the kayak while it was roped to our motorized boat for about 10 minutes trying to come back at it, but eventually gave up.

"The worst thing that has come of it is (Sarah) has lost her phone and her sound system, and she's gone home with both of her legs."

Sarah was taken to the Victor Harbor District Hospital where she was diagnosed as being in a state of shock.

Her older sister, who witnessed the incident, was also deemed to be in shock.
