KIEV, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine exported goods worth 27.5 billion U.S. dollars in January through August this year, up 21.1 percent compared with the same period of 2016, the government said Friday.

The strong exports growth was supported by the increased supplies of food, agriculture products, and metallurgical goods abroad, said a statement on the government's website.

The overseas sales of sunflower oil, corn, iron ores, flat-rolled products, ferrous-based alloys and seeds saw the largest growth in the first eight months of 2017.

During the period, the European Union was the largest destination for Ukrainian exports, accounting for 40 percent of the total sales. It was followed by India, Russia and the United States.
