BRUSSELS, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- The upcoming EU summit will take place at another venue after a "noxious fumes" incident, in which some staff fell ill in the building supposed to host the summit.

The noxious fumes are caused by technical issues affecting the ventilation in the kitchens of the Europa building, according to a statement of General Secretariat of the Council.

As a precautionary measure, the summit scheduled on Oct. 19-20 will take place in the Justus Lipsius building, which is next to the Europa Building, said the statement, adding that the programs and schedules of the summit remain unchanged.

The incident is the second of its kind within a week in the Europa Building.

On Oct. 13, some staff in the building were affected by noxious fumes caused by "a chemical reaction between two industrial cleaning products" in the kitchens of Europa building.

After a decade-long construction, the building became the home of the two institutions representing the EU member states, the Council of the European Union and the European Council, since the beginning of this year.

The building hosted its first EU summit in March.
