German tourism, gastronomy sectors continue to grow: report

BERLIN, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- The German tourism and gastronomy sectors continue to benefit from an uptick in domestic consumer spending, official figures released on Wednesday by the Federal Statistical Office (Statistisches Bundesamt) showed.

Price-adjusted real revenue in the tourism and gastronomy industries rose by 0.9 percent in August, compared to the same month last year. In nominal terms, the two sectors recoded growth of 3.2 percent.

According to the Wiesbaden-based government statisticians, German tourism and gastronomy hereby benefited from the country's lasting economic momentum and related rises in wages and consumer spending.

The German Hotel and Inn Association consequently expects the eight consecutive record year for German tourism in 2017.

Over the course of the current year, price-adjusted real revenue in the tourism and gastronomy has already grown by 1.5 percent.
