KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Up to 11 militants loyal to the Taliban group were killed and six others wounded following air raids in the northern Afghan provinces of Kunduz and Badakhshan, an official said on Wednesday.

"Afghan forces targeted militants hideouts in Imam Sahib district of Kunduz and Jurm district of Badakhshan, leaving six insurgents dead in the first incident and five other in the second attack," Ghulam Hazrat Karimi, press officer of the army 20 Pamir Division based in the region, told Xinhua.

According to the source, six fighters have also been injured, following the bombing in the restive Imam Sahib district of Kunduz province, with no Taliban comment on both incidents.

The Taliban insurgency spreads from its traditional strongholds in the south and east to the once peaceful region in the north, where the militants have been recruiting from among the youth.
