PHNOM PENH, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- One male garment factory worker was killed and 37 others were injured when two trucks crashed on Wednesday in Southern Cambodia's Takeo province, according to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).

The NSSF, which covers for the victims' medical expenses, said in a statement that a truck loaded with a rice threshing machine crashed head-on into a truck transporting garment factory workers at 6:05 a.m. local time in Baty district.

"One worker died on the spot, and 37 others got injured including two in severe condition," the statement said, adding that the ill-fated workers had been rushed to hospitals after the crash.

The driver of the truck loaded with a rice threshing machine escaped the scene after the fatal accident, it added.

Transporting garment factory workers in open trucks to and from factories is common in this Southeast Asian nation. In January last year, two trucks, carrying garment factory workers, crashed into each other in Western Kampong Speu province, leaving five female workers dead and 68 others wounded.
