MINSK, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- The gross domestic product (GDP) of Belarus increased by 1.7 percent year on year in the first nine months of this year, the Belarusian National Statistical Committee said Tuesday.

Belarusian Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov said at a cabinet meeting that the Belarusian economy hit the annual GDP target through September this year.

"The overall situation in the economy is stable. Almost all the key targets that indicate the effectiveness of the government work and the central bank are fulfilled," Kobyakov said.

Positive trends in the main branches of the Belarusian economy are retained. By September, industrial production rose by 6.1 percent while the performance of Belarusian agriculture grew by 1.7 percent compared with the same period of last year.

The Belarusian government expects to maintain its GDP increase by 1.7 percent to the end of the year.
