France's Macron launches consultation to combat kids, youth poverty

PARIS, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Marking the world day for poverty eradication, French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday launched a consultation to seek for ways to fight poverty amid children and youth.

Macron aims "to build a strategy to prevent and combat child and youth poverty (via) ... a renewed approach based on equal opportunities policy and social prevention from early childhood," said the Elysee.

Following the president's initiative, a gathering of government officials, experts and organizations will focus mainly on an adequate policy to prevent poverty, social investment and equal opportunities in the fight against child and youth poverty, in addition to professional and social integration.

They will "prepare concretely the strategy that will be implemented from 2018," according to a press release from the Elysee.

In France, poverty rate stood at 13.9 percent in 2016, slightly down by 0.3 percent, according to national statistics institute.
