TEHRAN, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Iran and France on Tuesday vowed to cooperate on resolving the conflicts in Syria, Press TV reported.
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari and France's Special Envoy for Syria Franck Gellet held talks in Tehran to discuss the root causes of the crisis in Syria and possible ways to defuse it.
As for regional policies, Ansari said Iran supports fighting terrorism and extremism, while opposing the weakening of central governments. In the meantime, Iran supports political reformation in the region on the basis of popular demands.
He expressed Iran's readiness for cooperation within the framework of these principles toward the restoration of peace and security in Syria.
Gellet, for his part, stressed the French government's determination to help bring about a political resolution of the Syrian conflict.
The French envoy expressed the hope that Paris and Tehran would cooperate, and use their respective influence to encourage intra-Syrian negotiation and help end the conflicts in Syria.
