KABUL, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- At least 91 militants were killed and 27 others injured amid Afghan security forces operations across the country over the past 24 hours, the defense ministry said Tuesday.

"Afghan National Defense and Security Forces launched military and cordon operations in 13 of 34 Afghan provinces in the past 24 hours, killing 91 armed militants and injuring 27 others," the ministry said in a statement providing daily operational updates.

Among those killed militants were four Islamic States (IS) militants.

The security forces also found and seized weapons, the statement said, without adding if there were any casualties on the side of security forces.

Afghan security forces have beefed up security operations against militants as the country is facing upsurges in attacks by Taliban and IS militants. However, the militants responded by armed attacks and bombings.
