ANKARA, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- The Turkish government on Monday decided to extend state of emergency for more three months, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag announced Monday.

"The government made a decision to extend the state of emergency in the country for free more months. It was sent to the parliament for approval," Bozdag told reporters following a weekly Cabinet meeting Monday.

Bekir said the government made this decision upon a suggestion of the National Security Council.

Turkey declared a state of emergency on July 20, 2016, days after a failed military coup allegedly plotted by U.S.-based exiled cleric Fethullah Gulen, and has extended it for four times by now.

According to Turkish constitution, during the state of emergency, the cabinet has the right to issue statutory decrees under the president of the republic without regard to routine procedures and restrictions.

These decrees are first published in the Official Gazette and then submitted to parliament for ratification.
