Malaysia hosts Qatari emir for two-day visit

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia on Monday hosted Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, who is leading a business delegation on his first state visit to the country.

The Qatari emir was welcomed in a ceremony at the parliament in Kuala Lumpur.

The Qatari emir also met with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak at the prime minister's office in Putrajaya, where the two witnessed the signing of four Memorandums of Understanding in the fields of training for diplomats, higher education, as well as legal and judicial cooperation, according to reports from Bernama, the Malaysian state news agency.

At a press conference held after the bilateral talks, Najib told reporters that Qatar is seeking to make more investment in the health and hotel services sectors in Malaysia.

Najib also noted Malaysian companies' presence in Qatar, highlighting close trade relations between the two countries.

Regarding Qatar's preparations to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Najib said he hoped that Malaysian companies would be given the opportunity to participate in its infrastructure development.
