NEW DELHI, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- A devastating fire Monday broke out inside a four-storied building in the Indian capital New Delhi, leading to its collapse, police said.

No casualties have been reported yet.

The fire broke out in the evening at Mansarovar Garden in West Delhi.

"This evening fire broke out in a building housing some business establishment," a police official said. "No loss of life or injury to anyone was reported in the incident but goods inside it were gutted."

Following the incident, over two dozen fire tenders rushed to the spot to contain the blaze from spreading to adjoining areas.

"While the fire was being doused, the building collapsed," the official said. "It took the firefighters over two hours to douse the flame."

Fire service officials said the cause of fire was being ascertained.

Chances of fire in India are often high as people usually ignore safety standards.
