GAZA, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- A delegation of the Palestinian National Unity government arrived in Gaza Monday to start the handover of the strip's border crossings in accordance with the internal Palestinian reconciliation deal.

The head of the Borders and Crossings Authority Nazmi Muhanna told Xinhua that the visit aims at preparing for the handover of the Gaza border crossings and setting a reasonable timetable for the process.

He said he is looking forward to achieving the mission despite obstacles.

Hamas and Fatah agreed last Thursday in Cairo on measures that would empower the Palestinian government's work in the coastal enclave and take full responsibility of all affairs there by December 2017.

The Egyptian patrons of the reconciliation deal invited Palestinian factions for a national dialogue in Cairo on Oct. 21, to discuss the remaining issues related to the decade long internal Palestinian division.

The coastal enclave is surrounded by three border crossings; two are with Israel, which are Erez crossing for people and Kerem Shalom for goods, and the third is the Rafah border crossing with Egypt.
