CANBERRA -- The Australian opposition's foreign affairs spokesperson on Monday called for the country to "engage better with China."

Penny Wong, an Australian Labor Party (ALP) Senator of Malaysian descendant, said in a speech at an Australian Institute of International Affairs (AIIA) conference that increasing trade with China was the surest way to guarantee Australia's position as a top 20 global economy in the future.

NEW DELHI -- China has made all-round achievements in the past five years under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Indian scholar B.R. Deepak has said.

Deepak, a professor at the Chinese and South East Asian Studies Center of Jawaharlal Nehru University, praised the CPC's success in spurring economic growth, providing better public services and goods to the Chinese people and maintaining social stability and development.

BEIJING -- The number of newly founded companies in China has continued to surge in the first three quarters of this year amid government efforts to encourage entrepreneurship and innovation, data showed.

A total of 4.51 million new companies were set up in the Jan.-Sept. period, a daily average of 16,500 new firms, representing a 12.5 percent growth year on year, according to statistics from the State Administration of Industry and Commerce (SAIC).
