BERLIN, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- The success rates for refugees to be granted asylum in Germany vary considerably from state to state, the Funke Media Group reported on Friday.
German federal government published figures of recognition rates, or the proportion of people who have received recognized refugee status, in response to an inquiry from Ulla Jelpke, a lawmaker from the left-wing Party, Die Linke.
According to the figures, the recognition rate for asylum seekers from Iraq was 96.4 in the state of Bremen during the first six months of 2017, compared to 50.3 percent in Berlin.
While 65 percent of asylum applications from Afghans turned out successful in Bremen, 30.9 percent of applications from Afghans were successful in Brandenburg. The recognition rate for asylum seekers from Iran was 37.6 percent in Bavaria, whereas 85 percent were recognized in Bremen.
The recognition rates for Syrian refugees in all German states were found to be about 99 percent.
Jelpke said in an article published on her twitter account that "the suspicion is that a particularly negative asylum-political mood, like in Bavaria and Saxony, could be the reason for above-average rejections in these states," adding that the reasons for gaps in recognition rates among different states need further investigation.
