TEHRAN, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Iran and Russia will stage a one-day joint naval drill in the Caspian Sea in the coming days, Press TV reported on Friday.

A naval fleet, comprised of Iranian Damavand destroyer and missile-launching Peykan-class warship, would leave for the Russian port city of Makhachkala on the western shore of the Caspian Sea on Saturday, Iran's Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari was quoted as saying.

The fleet is expected to dock at the Russian port city within two days to convey the Islamic republic's message of peace and friendship, to boost bilateral marine cooperation and to improve security in the Caspian Sea, Sayyari said.

"Such marine relations show that the Islamic Republic of Iran, as a regional and strong naval power, plays a leading role in establishing security," the commander added.
