SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- At least two girls were wounded Thursday in a grenade blast in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

The grenade blast took place in Pulwama town, about 28 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"Two girls were wounded today after some unknown people hurled a grenade here outside a beauty parlor," a police official said. "They were immediately rushed to hospital for treatment."

Soon after the attack, police and paramilitary forces rushed to the spot and launched a manhunt to nab the attackers.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident unidentified gunmen barged inside a bank at village Marhama of district Anantnag and looted cash.

"We were told three armed men barged inside the branch decamped with some cash," a police official posted in the area said. "Bank officials are calculating the exact figure that has been looted."

Police suspect militants behind both the attacks. However, so far no militant outfit has claimed responsibility of the attacks.

Militant groups opposing New Delhi's rule are engaged in a guerrilla war with Indian troops in the region since 1989. Kashmir, the Himalayan region divided between India and Pakistan, is claimed by both in full. Since their independence from Britain, the two countries have fought three wars, two exclusively over Kashmir.
