LIMA, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Peru will be ready to overcome "whatever comes their way" in their two-legged World Cup qualifying playoff against New Zealand next month, according to veteran striker Paolo Guerrero.
Ricardo Gareca's team kept alive their hopes of qualifying for their first World Cup since 1982 by drawing 1-1 with Colombia in their final South American qualifier on Tuesday, a result that left them fifth in the CONMEBOL group.
New Zealand advanced to the playoff as the top ranked team in Oceania.
"We know that they are going to be two very difficult matches," Guerrero, who plays his club football for Brazil's Flamengo, told reporters. "We are going to make sure that we are prepared for whatever comes our way.
"What I can say is that this team will never give up. We have to keep playing in the same way that we have been until now. We have shown that on our day we can beat anyone," the former Bayern Munich player added.
The first leg will be played in New Zealand on November 6 with the return fixture scheduled for November 14 in Lima.
