U.S. military helicopter makes emergency landing after inflight fire

WASHINGTON, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. Marine Corps said Wednesday that a CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing due to an inflight fire in its Japanese base camp in Okinawa. No injuries were reported.

According to the official website of the Marine Corps, the aircraft belongs to the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing.

The accident took place when the plane was conducting regular training at approximately 5:20 p.m. local time (1020 GMT) at a field outside the Northern Training Area.

There were no injuries to the crew or civilians. The cause of incident is under investigation.

The Marine Corps said it was working with local police and military troops to secure the site for later investigation.
