LUSAKA, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- A senior Zambian government official said on Wednesday that emergency powers invoked by President Edgar Lungu to deal with a spate of sabotage to public properties will end midnight Wednesday.

Minister of Justice Given Lubinda told parliament that the declaration will expire after its 90-day lifespan comes to an end on Wednesday night.

However, he said the expiration of the declaration should not result in lawlessness and that all those behind the acts of sabotage will be brought to justice.

President Lungu invoked emergency powers on July 5, following a series of acts of sabotage, which saw the burning of public properties, including a popular flea market in Lusaka, the country's capital.
