ISLAMABAD, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- A passenger plane of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) made emergency landing in the country's eastern Punjab Province after emission of smoke from its cargo section, officials said Wednesday.

The plane, which took off from Sialkot airport, landed at the neighboring airport in the provincial capital of Lahore when its pilot informed control tower about smoke emission, PIA spokesperson Mashhood Tajwar said.

The plane carrying 300 passengers was on its way to Saudi capital of Riyadh when the accident happened.

The spokesperson said that all passengers have been safely evacuated and will be sent to their destination from a substitute flight.

He said that the plane will be cleared after inspection by the airport authorities which are examining it to determine the cause of the smoke emission.
