Catalan regional gov't leader says open to dialogue, mediation

BARCELONA, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- The president of the regional government of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont, said to be open to dialogue while appearing in the parliament of Catalonia Tuesday to assess the results of the Oct. 1 referendum.

The referendum had been declared illegal by the Spanish Constitutional Court.

Puigdemont asked the Spanish government to accept mediation after saying that the effects of the declaration of independence would be suspended to open a period of dialogue.
