Italy's industrial production increases 1.2 pct in August: ISTAT

ROME, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Italy's industrial production rose in volume by 1.2 percent in August against July, the National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) said on Tuesday.

It grew by 2.2 percent over the period June-August compared to the previous three months, the agency also stated.

On the monthly basis, the industrial output especially increased in the energy segment (4.6 percent), in intermediate goods (2.4 percent) and instrumental goods (2.2 percent), while the consumer goods segment posted a 0.5 percent decline, according to the data.

ISTAT added that the unadjusted industrial production index grew by 5.7 percent in August compared with the same month in 2016, led by energy with 8.4 percent, consumer goods with 6.8 percent, and intermediate goods with 5.4 percent. The index did not include construction.

On an annual basis, the economic sectors growing fastest in August were pharmaceutical products and preparations (22.2 percent), mining products (13.6 percent), and other manufacturing (10 percent).

In the same period, computers, electronic, and optical apparatus production decreased by 7.3 percent, electrical apparatus by 5.1 percent, and motor vehicles and trailers by 1.3 percent, according to the agency.
