TRIPOLI, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Protesters in the eastern Libyan city of Tubruq on Monday closed the headquarter of the House of Representative (Parliament), according to a security source.

"Dozens of protesters gathered in front of the parliament in Tubruq and prevented members from entering until their demands are met," the source said.

"The protesters demanded the municipal council, the government and the parliament to provide jobs, and improve basic services in the city, including infrastructure, drinking water, and sanitation," the source added.

Mediation efforts by local elders were under way to persuade the protesters to allow members to attend a parliament session, the source confirmed.

PM Tariq Al-Jurushi told Xinhua that the parliament was preparing to hold a session to discuss the outcome of the recent UN-sponsored dialogue meeting on the amendment of the current political agreement.
