TEHRAN, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Iranian foreign minister said Sunday that his country would give appropriate response after U.S. President Donald Trump announces his new strategy on Iran next week.

Mohammad Javad Zarif said that "once Trump makes his comments (about Iran), ... the Islamic Republic of Iran will give an appropriate response."

Zarif was referring to the U.S. president's plan to unveil his new strategy on Iran.

Trump has repeatedly claimed that Iran had not committed to the 2015 nuclear deal and criticized Iran for pursuing its missile program which, he said, targets regional and international peace.

Iran pursues its own policies in the region regardless of others' rhetoric, said Zarif, adding that Iran is the pillar of stability and fighting against terrorism in the region.

"The fact is that our region has long been suffering from the United States' wrong policies," he pointed out.

His comments came after the White House said on Friday that Trump would renew U.S. responses to Iran's missile tests and alleged support for terrorism.

Iran has insisted that its ballistic missile program is aimed at deterrence ends.
