TAIPEI, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Taichung was hit by the highest October heat as a reading of 38.3 degrees Celsius was recorded Sunday afternoon, according to local weather station.
The extreme hot weather was the result of a tropical depression near the Philippines, according to Taiwan's weather authority.
It was also the fourth hottest temperature reading in Taichung with the nearby scenic spot Sun Moon Lake also recording its highest ever temperature for October at 32.5 degrees Celsius.
The hottest weather in Taiwan so far this year was 38.6 degrees Celsius recorded in Taipei on Sept. 27.
