BEIRUT, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Prime Minister Saad Hariri hailed Saturday a female biking tour calling for peace and highlighted Lebanon's efforts for peace and unity, said a press release by the PM's media office.

Kicked off in Lebanon on Oct. 1, the "Pedal for Peace" biking tour arrived in capital Beirut on Saturday with 120 women bikers from 16 countries, who are scheduled to visit across the whole country.

"Lebanon is a country of coexistence, culture, history and beauty; it may witness stages of chaos, suffering and difficulties," Hariri addressed to the bikers. "Despite the diversity in the country, we all live together as if we were one, even if politics separate us sometimes".

British activist Detta Regan, also a sponsor of the event, expressed her gratitude to the Lebanese people.

"We have seen the beauty and diversity of Lebanon. Many of our countries experienced terrorist attacks in the past few months. But we felt safe and happy in Lebanon," she said.

Jawad Sbeity, head of co-organizer "Beirut by Bike", noted the difficulty in inviting these female participants.

"We communicated with several groups in the world working to support women and invited them to Lebanon. Many had bans from their countries to visit Lebanon," Sbeity said.

In the past years after its debut in 2004, the event has covered Syria, Jordan, and Palestine.

"We really thank the Lebanese people who support and sponsor us to come and make this event. The main goal is to realize peace for everybody no matter where they are," Regan added.
