MANILA, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- The Philippine police will impose a gun ban starting Nov. 1 to Nov. 15 as part of the security steps to ensure the safety of world leaders who will gather here for the annual Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit, a news report said Saturday.
The 10 ASEAN leaders and their counterparts from seven ASEAN dialogue partners plus thousands of delegates and journalists will attend or cover the summit.
After the ASEAN leaders summit, the 10 Southeast Asian leaders will also meet leaders from Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Russia, and the United States.
Quoting national capital region police chief director Oscar Albayalde, the Philippine Star reported that police checkpoints will be set up around the capital as part of the security measures.
Albayalde said the police will continue to intensify its campaign to rid (Manila's) streets of criminals for the ASEAN summit.
