ANKARA, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Turkey, Iran and Iraq will jointly decide on closing the flow of oil from northern Iraq, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan told reporters Thursday on his return flight from Iran after one-day trip.
"In the case of northern Iraq, Iran, Iraq and Turkey will form a tripartite mechanism, and will decide on cutting off the oil pipeline from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)," Erdogan was quoted by Hurriyet Daily News as saying.
When asked whether Ankara had got a softening signal from northern Iraq, Turkish President replied," We have not received anything like that yet."
Turkey has vowed to take any necessary measures, including political, economic sanctions and military invention, to retaliate its consequences after the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) voted for independence on Sept. 25.
Ankara launched joint military exercises with Iraqi troops on their borders, and also threatened to join Baghdad in imposing economic sanctions on Iraqi Kurds.
During Erdogan's visit to Tehran, both Turkish and Iranian leaders emphasized to boost comprehensive cooperation amidst Iraqi Kurds' independence referendum.
The KRG exports its oil, which is a vital revenue for it, to the outside world via a pipeline that passes through southern Turkey.
Earlier President Erdogan warned that the Iraqi Kurds "could go hungry" as a result of the punitive measures.
