TUNIS, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- A nine-year-old girl and her five-year-old brother were killed while four others injured when a building collapsed in the eastern coastal province of Sousse, authorities said on Thursday.

The three-storey building, located in the center of Sousse, had collapsed due to the severe weather conditions recently and a lack of maintenance, according to the Civil Protection department.

Six people are still buried in the rubble. The injured, including one man, two women and one child, have been taken to hospital for medical treatment.

The residents of a nearby building have been evacuated as a precaution, said an official source in Sousse.

Tunisian Prime Minister Youssef Chahed has instructed the ministry of equipment and health to monitor the incident. An investigation has been launched to define the responsibilities and failures that led to the collapse.
